I'm Dr. Chenyi Zhang, a tenured Associate Professor of early childhood education at Georgia State University (Ph.D., Purdue University). My research examines early literacy and writing development across cultural contexts, professional learning for teachers, and the thoughtful integration of AI in early childhood education. I have authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals — including Early Childhood Research Quarterly, Journal of Literacy Research, Reading and Writing, and Early Education and Development — along with book chapters with Routledge, and I serve as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Research in Childhood Education.
My work has been supported by over $370,000 in external grants as Principal Investigator, including the NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship, a Spencer Foundation grant, and a Google Academic Research Award. I maintain active international research partnerships with East China Normal University, Hebei University, the University of Macau, and collaborators across China and Taiwan. I am an active member of the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) — a three-time recipient of its Horowitz Early Career Mentor Award — and of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and I regularly mentor doctoral students and early-career scholars toward publication and successful careers.
